(2,720 kg) 4xe max towing capability" for the plug-in hybrid. All three are maximums that assume the right configuration and the factory trailer tow content. A 25-foot travel trailer with a 6,000 lb GVWR sits inside that ceiling by 200 lb when it is fully loaded, which is not the comfortable margin the brochure implies. Many owners also prefer to leave meaningful headroom under a rating rather than run at it, which would put this trailer outside the range entirely.

On this class of SUV the trailer tow group typically brings a rated hitch receiver, wiring, upgraded engine and transmission cooling, and in some trims a trailer brake provision. A Grand Cherokee that left the factory without it is rated well below the headline, and fitting a receiver afterward does not change the rating, because the rating was never about the receiver.
